LSU Stamps ScholarHometown: Benton, La.
Major: Biological Sciences
Graduation Year: 2024
Why did you choose to attend LSU?
LSU truly captures the beauty of Southern hospitality. In addition to that, LSU has
offered me an amazing opportunity filled with undergraduate research, study abroad
experiences, and unmatched support from faculty and fellow scholars.
What extracurricular programs are you involved in?
I am currently involved in LSU’s Baptist Collegiate Ministry and the local church
called Istrouma Baptist Church. I attend community groups and worship gatherings,
and I hope to be involved in their praise band one day. I also work in a lab as an
undergraduate researcher with Dr. Wardrop where he is studying two types of enzymes
from “a kinetic, chemical, and structural perspective.”
How have you used, or how do you intend to use your Stamps Scholar enrichment funds?
I plan to use my Stamps Scholar enrichment funds to attend the Oxford study abroad
trip with Dr. Arms. This trip is not one that many people can experience, and I am
thankful for the opportunity. In addition to studying abroad, I will be keeping my
eye out for summer internships.
What would you say to the donors of LSU, specifically the Stamps Scholarship Program?
I cannot put into words how meaningful this scholarship truly is to me, but what I
can say right now is thank you. Thank you for believing in my fellow scholars and
me. Thank you for seeing our potential and supporting us.
What is your favorite memory as an LSU Stamps Scholar?
My favorite memory is getting together with my fellow freshmen scholars, having a
socially distanced dinner, and checking up on each other. We talk about our research,
potential yoga classes, our classes, and more. This is a special group of young men
and women, and I am excited to see what we will accomplish one day. I cherish the
times we get together now, even though it is in the middle of a pandemic.
