Debra Ryland began her career at the LSU Foundation in 2016 when she was hired as
an administrative assistant on the Talent Management team. Now, serving as an office
administrator, Debra enjoys assisting in interview scheduling because she has a greater
opportunity to represent the Foundation by connecting with candidates. She holds a
bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Florida State University.
MY LSU
Why did you choose to build a career with the LSU Foundation?
The LSU Foundation provides the mission of academic philanthropy, and I wholeheartedly support this mission because it affects students and has an impact across Louisiana, the U.S., and the world. I am forever thankful to be a part of such an excellent team of colleagues on both the administrative side and the frontline fundraising team.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day starts with the pleasure of greeting colleagues in the lobby as they head to their offices. Throughout the day it includes connecting donors, LSU staff, guests, and vendors at the welcome desk. It also entails supervising a great team of Talent Management student workers with projects and daily tasks. My day may involve planning employee engagement events and assisting in the candidate interview process, but on a beautiful day, I may be found on campus giving a new employee tour on the Foundation golf cart.
Tell us about your favorite work win or moment when you truly felt the impact of your work.
Our annual Employee Appreciation Day always feels like a win! It is so exciting to celebrate such stellar colleagues with breakfast to geaux, gifts from businesses throughout the day, and the culminating event of delicious piles of crawfish on the terrace! It is truly rewarding to experience and see them feel so appreciated.
Where is your favorite place on campus?
I’ll share two! The LSU Lakes are so tranquil, and the LSU Foundation terrace has
a panoramic view and at times a great breeze.
