Christel C. Slaughter
Christel C. Slaughter, PhD, of Baton Rouge earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from LSU’s Ourso College in 1975 and a doctoral degree in systems management and organizational design in 1979. She was inducted into the college’s Hall of Distinction in 2010 and is a former adjunct professor for the Flores MBA Program. As the CEO of SSA Consultants, she has led corporate and organizational transformations involving strategy, growth, cultural change and performance improvement and has served as the principal investigator on hundreds of projects. Slaughter joined SSA Consultants, now a woman‐owned management consulting and organizational development firm, in 1983 and has been instrumental in guiding the growth and diversification of the firm’s client base and service offerings. In 2017, SSA was recognized by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry as the Workforce Innovator of the Year.
Dr. Slaughter serves on the Board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is chair of the U.S. Chamber Small Business Council. She was the first woman chair of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce in 1986 and currently serves on the Louisiana Association of Business & Industry Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She is past chair of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and the New Orleans Branch Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank and served as interim president of the Our Lady of the Lake Foundation for one year. She was a torchbearer for the 1996 Summer Olympic Torch Run and was awarded the 2009 Brotherhood Sisterhood Award of Greater Baton Rouge. Her community involvement also includes serving on the boards of Woman’s Hospital, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Foundation.
