D. Martin Phillips

D. Martin Phillips of Houston, Texas, is an alumnus of LSU, where he earned MBA and bachelor's degrees. He also attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

He is managing partner for EnCap. Prior to joining EnCap in 1989, Phillips served as a senior vice president in the Energy Banking Group of NationsBank in Dallas, Texas. In his capacity as manager of the U.S./International Division from 1987 to 1989, he had responsibility for credit commitments totaling approximately $1 billion to a broad spectrum of energy-related companies. Phillips began his career in 1978 with Republic Bank and served in various senior energy banking positions, including vice president and manager of Republic Bank's energy loan production office in Denver, from 1980 to 1985, and senior vice president and division manager in Republic Bank's Houston office, from 1986 to 1987.

Mr. Phillips serves on the board of directors of several EnCap portfolio companies and is a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the American Petroleum Institute and the Houston Producers' Forum. In addition, he serves on the Board of Small Steps Nurturing Center, an inner city, early childhood development program in Houston.

Phillips is a member of the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction.
