Jane Cantrell Taber is a partner in the Dallas law firm, Scheef & Stone LLP. She has a comprehensive business law practice with over three decades of representing businesses and business owners in complex and diverse transactions, including advising on corporate governance, operational concerns, risk management, business dispute resolution, contracts, mergers, and acquisitions. Jane is a trusted advisor to upper management as shown by her service on corporate boards of directors and advisory boards throughout her career. After years of honing her negotiation skills through endless hours of dealmaking, Jane became a certified mediator and is often asked to mediate complex business disputes to avoid litigation.

Jane has devoted herself to mentoring and supporting young professional businesswomen in advancement of their careers, having served as mentor to a number of women over the years, authored dozens of award-winning articles and participated on panels and other speaking opportunities on topics of interest to businesswomen and entrepreneurs. Prior to her move to her current law firm, Jane was a co-founding member of the first certified woman-owned law firm in Dallas in 2008. She chairs the diversity and equity committee of her firm. She is a founder of and serves as an organizer and presenter at her law firm’s annual Women to Women business luncheons to support the North Texas women’s business community.
 
In addition to support of women, Jane also has a passion for the education of young children and served on the Board of Directors and chair of the governance committee for Educational First Steps, a nonprofit organization that equips economically disadvantaged area day care centers and teachers to obtain national accreditation. Jane is also a founding board member of Episcopal Church of the Ascension Day School and has served in positions of leadership and chaired events and capital campaigns for local philanthropic and religious organizations for the past three decades.

Jane was awarded D Magazine, Best Lawyers recognition in 2010 and every year from 2018 through 2024. She is also a 2024 Texas Super Lawyers recipient. She is a thirty-plus-year Martindale Hubbell AV rated, eminent lawyer designee, the highest designation awarded a lawyer for her competence and ethics. Jane was appointed to serve on the Texas State Bar Grievance Committee, the legal disciplinary body for Texas lawyers. 

Jane was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. She has been married to her husband, Douglas, since 1985, and they have three grown children. She is a proud graduate of Louisiana State University, with a Bachelor of Science in business marketing and a Juris Doctorate degree from the LSU law school. Before moving to Dallas to pursue her private practice legal career, Jane clerked at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Shreveport.
