Miles Williams
Miles B. Williams currently serves as the president and managing owner of Sigma Consulting
Group, Inc. He has served in various roles with the regional consulting engineering
firm, but most notably, Williams was the project manager for the Louisiana Highway
1 improvement project in Lafourche Parish and the George O’Neal Road improvements
in East Baton Rouge Parish. He is a dedicated Tiger. He earned a bachelor's degree
from the LSU College of Engineering in 1983 and is a longtime adjunct faculty member
within the college.
He was born and raised in Baton Rouge, La., and he and his wife, Martha, still reside
there. The couple supports many areas of LSU. For example, they have endowed the Mike
N. Dooley Professorship in Civil Engineering, supported the addition of lab equipment
in the civil engineering department, provided two Tiger Band scholarships in the LSU
College of Music and Dramatic Arts, and supported capital projects within the Tiger
Athletic Foundation. In addition to his service on the LSU Foundation National Board,
Williams also serves as an advisory board member for the Paula Manship Branch YMCA
and the Cenikor Foundation, vice president of the St. Jude School Board, advisory
council member of the Scotlandville High School for Engineering Professions, and a
cub scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
My LSU Giving Story
What is your favorite memory involving LSU?
There are so many it is hard to say which is my fondest. From going to my first football
game at six years old to graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
in 1983, LSU was central in my life from my earliest remembrances. I believe my favorite
memory, though, was watching my son as a freshman Tiger Band member perform the pregame
show in Tiger Stadium for his first time.
What makes LSU unique?
LSU has a great combination of excellent academic programs, a beautiful campus, and
very strong athletics and extracurricular activities. As the flagship University for
our State, LSU creates a great college atmosphere that reflects our unique culture
while producing graduates that serve our community, bolster our economy, and make
Louisiana a better place.
If you are an LSU alumnus/a, why did you choose to attend LSU?
As a Baton Rouge native and dedicated Tiger fan who grew up knowing that LSU had excellent
engineering and architecture programs, LSU was the only choice for me.
Why do you support LSU?
My wife, Martha, and I are very grateful for what LSU has provided our family, community,
and state. Because of all that has been provided to us and our children, paying it
forward so that others can have a great college experience and earn an excellent degree
at LSU is an important part of our philanthropic efforts.
If someone asked you why he/she should make a gift to LSU, what would you say?
Giving to LSU is one of the best ways that someone can show their support for the
university and the mission to promote collegiate academics in Louisiana.
What is your vision for LSU, and how do you think philanthropy can drive that vision?
As the flagship university for Louisiana, I would love to see LSU become recognized
as one of the top-tier public universities in both academics and athletics, in our
region and throughout the U.S.
What motivated you to accept our invitation to be an inaugural member of the LSU Foundation
National Board?
I want to do whatever I can to support and promote LSU. Serving on the National Board
allows me another opportunity to do that.
What most excites you about being part of the National Board?
Helping the fundraising arm of the university I love and meeting and working with
like-minded supporters of LSU.
